Tenerife is the largest island within the Canary Islands, and an extremely popular European tourist destination. What is quite interesting about this region is that it offers a tropical climate throughout the year; a benefit not always associated with other locations throughout Europe. El Teide National Park
Tenerife is a Spanish province and yet, its geography appears as if it were formed on an entirely different continent. The Canary Islands is actually a volcanic archipelago; Tenerife being the largest land mass. Its natural beauty is therefore clearly evident when visiting El Tiede National Park. This preserve is home to a large volcanic mountain that reaches an incredible 3,718 metres into the sky. The park also covers more than 19,000 hectares, and it was named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
Tenerife’s Atlantic charm
Anyone who is drawn to the aquatic lifestyle will not be disappointed with what Tenerife has to offer. Due to the simple fact that Tenerife is an island, maritime opportunities abound. Popular tourist venues include El Médano Beach, Montaña Roja (Red Mountain) Beach, and Playa de las Americas. However, it could pay to take a walk off of the beaten path.
There are plenty of so-called “wild” beaches to be found here, and opting for boat hire in Tenerife will provide you with a convenient means to access these locations. Furthermore, some are rather difficult to read by foot or car. Be sure to research these possibilities:

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the island’s capital as well as its largest city. Thanks in no small part to an income derived primarily from tourism, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy upon your arrival.
Small municipalities including Barranco de Santos and Cordillera de Anaga are both found within walking distance of the city centre, and should never be missed thanks to their one-of-a-kind colourful cottages. Indeed, it seems as if Santa Cruz de Tenerife was particularly designed with walking tours in mind. The city can be easily traversed in a day before heading off to catch a bit of fun in the sun. You could instead choose to become immersed within Plaza España; a large square where local vendors gather to sell their goods.
